“The Bridge on the River Kwai”, a 1957 epic war film directed by David Lean, is now widely recognized as one of the greatest films ever made. It was the highest grossing film of 1957 & won 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, and Best Screenplay.
This unrestored poster is in very fine condition and displays amazingly well. It has bright & vibrant colors featuring the bridge at the heart of the story & an image of star William Holden displaying grit & determination. It does have general signs of use including light edge/corner wear, mostly soft creases, some smudges, unobtrusive scuffs, & a few minute printing irregularities.
The film's screenplay is fictional, but uses the construction of the Burma Railway, in 1942-1943, as the historical setting. Cast includes William Holden, Alec Guinness, and Sessue Hayakawa. Oscar-winning William Holden was one of the biggest 1950’s box-office draws.
