Imperial Red Natural (Beryllium treated) Sapphire from Songea, Tanzania. So when this discovery was first made mostly green colored Sapphires were discovered and were mistaken for Chrysoberyl. Chrysoberyl undergoes a berrylium treatment to enhance its clarity. However when the treatment was used on these gems they did something unexpected and turned to a dramatically more intense color. The rarest of all colors was orange and red Sapphires. They had a cloudy muddy appearance until beryllium treatment. After the treatment their true inner beauty was expressed creating these shockingly brilliant colors not yet seen in Sapphires. Despite their rather unique treatment the rarest colored stones of orange and red fetch extraordinarily high prices on the market. This is one such gem and is available at a good price as opposed to the jewelry store prices if you can even find one in a jewelry store.
