Sir Walter Scott is not often read today, except perhaps for his novel "Ivanhoe", the kind of story that is generally titled "sweeping".
Which is a shame, because his books have a lot to offer: While the style and characters can be over-wrought, his plots are always entertaining and the settings (and the history embodied in those environs) are fascinating.
