This exceptional studio pottery chawan (tea bowl) features a rich, volcanic red glaze w/deeply expressive surface texture & form. Entirely hand-thrown, the bowl embraces the wabi-sabi aesthetic w/its subtly irregular rim, flowing glaze transitions.
The body is adorned w/trailing white glaze lines that evoke abstract calligraphy, windswept landscapes, or rising mist over stone. These markings are not written characters but carefully applied glaze accents
The interior shifts from muted smoky reds to darker charcoals, while the underside is sealed w/a red-glazed stamp featuring the Japanese kanji signature 佳旧, which may translate to Beautiful Antiquity, a fitting name for a piece rooted in tradition yet utterly contemporary in its presence.
