This tenugui (hand towel) is a Shinsengumi article and introduced during a TV season about the group in 2004. The Shinsengumi were a famous group of samurai that defended the government in the 1860s. This tenugui has the Shinsengumi banner in the center with the word "truth". On one side of the tenugui are the rules of the Shinsengumi and on the other is a listing of the leaders of the group. A tenugui has all sorts of uses including drying one's hands, wrapper around the head or used as an apron. I used mine simply as a framed decoration. This particular tenugui is brand new...never used or taken out of the packaging. Bought in Japan in 2004 and stored. This one measures 35" x 13.5".
