★ Measurements Frame Size: Approx. 18.5" wide × 16" tall Visible Image Size: Approx. 12.5" wide × 9.5" tall Glazing: Glass front panel ★ Condition Era: Mid to late 20th century, c.1960s–1980s Condition: Good vintage condition overall. Flaws: The watercolour surface remains flat and stable, with light, even age toning consistent with period paper and long-term framing. The mount shows general surface wear and age-related spotting, more apparent in lighter areas. The gilt frame displays honest wear throughout, including rubbing to edges, small scuffs, corner knocks and areas of softened or dulled gilt consistent with age and domestic display. The reverse retains its original backing board with brown paper tape edging, showing handling wear, soft creasing and age discolouration, along with a framers label from “The Frame Shop”, Walton-on-Thames. Note: Easel shown in photos is not included, this piece has been in long-term storage and would benefit from cleaning or sympathetic attention if desired. ★ Details & Features Original watercolour coastal scene depicting beached fishing boats resting along a shallow shoreline, with distant landforms and birds in flight providing depth and movement. The artist uses loose, economical brushwork and layered washes to suggest form rather than define it, allowing the paper to play an active role in the composition. The muted palette and open sky create a strong sense of space and atmosphere, typical of mid to late 20th century British coastal watercolour traditions influenced by plein air practice. Signed Y. Irvine to the lower right. Presented in a traditional gilt frame with green mount and pink inner slip, a framing combination commonly used during the period and well suited to the softness of the watercolour.
